This flaw occurs because the bootloader mishandles string conversion when reading information from a USB device, allowing an attacker to exploit inconsistent length values. A local attacker can connect a maliciously configured USB device during the boot sequence to trigger this issue. A successful exploitation may lead GRUB to crash, leading to a Denial of Service. Data corruption may be also possible, although given the complexity of the exploit the impact is most likely limited.","published":"2025-11-18T19:15:50.000Z","lastModified":"2026-10-18T20:10:00.000Z","status":"Deferred","sourceIdentifier":"secalert@redhat.com","cvss":{"version":"3.1","score":4.8,"severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:P/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:H"},"cwe":["CWE-131"],"affected":[],"epss":{"score":0.00208,"percentile":0.10827,"date":"2026-10-27","history":[]},"kev":{"listed":false},"exploits":{"count":0,"verified":false,"firstPublished":null,"source":"Exploit-DB (https://gitlab.com/exploit-database/exploitdb)","entries":[]},"verdict":{"level":"low","text":"Lower severity and a low EPSS score (0.21%).
