It was found that the PatrolCli application can allow for lateral movement and escalation of privilege inside a Windows Active Directory environment. It was found that by default the PatrolCli / PATROL Agent application only verifies if the password provided for the given username is correct; it does not verify the permissions of the user on the network. This means if you have PATROL Agent installed on a high value target (domain controller), you can use a low privileged domain user to authenticate with PatrolCli and then connect to the domain controller and run commands as SYSTEM. This means any user on a domain can escalate to domain admin through PATROL Agent. NOTE: the vendor disputes this because they believe it is adequate to prevent this escalation by means of a custom, non-default configuration","published":"2019-01-17T20:29:00.000Z","lastModified":"2026-06-17T01:53:23.000Z","status":"Modified","sourceIdentifier":"cve@mitre.org","cvss":{"version":"3.0","score":7.8,"severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"},"cwe":["CWE-287"],"affected":["bmc/patrol agent"],"epss":{"score":0.07488,"percentile":0.94448,"date":"2026-10-27","history":[]},"kev":{"listed":false},"exploits":{"count":1,"verified":true,"firstPublished":"2019-03-18","source":"Exploit-DB (https://gitlab.com/exploit-database/exploitdb)","entries":[{"edbId":46556,"kind":"exploit","title":"BMC Patrol Agent - Privilege Escalation Code Execution Execution (Metasploit)","url":"https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/46556","sourceUrl":"https://gitlab.com/exploit-database/exploitdb/-/blob/main/exploits/multiple/remote/46556.rb","file":"exploits/multiple/remote/46556.rb","published":"2019-03-18","added":"2019-03-18","updated":"2019-03-18","author":"Metasploit","type":"remote","platform":"multiple","port":3181,"verified":true,"codes":["CVE-2018-20735"],"tags":"Metasploit Framework (MSF)","aliases":null,"applicationUrl":null,"screenshotUrl":null,"referenceUrl":"https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rapid7/metasploit-framework/f2edda207f1282b329a98934720d6414a5101219/modules/exploits/multi/misc/bmc_patrol_cmd_exec.rb"}]},"verdict":{"level":"urgent","text":"A public exploit is published in Exploit-DB (verified) and the impact is high, while EPSS rates exploitation at 7.5%.
