A local attacker with elevated user privileges (manufact) could modify a CRAMFS archive so that after reboot the system loads the modified CRAMFS file and attacker-controlled code is executed with root privileges. The security vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker with local access to the affected systems. Successful exploitation requires elevated user privileges (manufact) but no user interaction. The vulnerability could allow an attacker to compromise confidentiality, integrity and availability of the system. At the time of advisory publication no public exploitation of this security vulnerability was known.","published":"2018-12-12T16:29:00.000Z","lastModified":"2026-06-17T01:35:59.000Z","status":"Modified","sourceIdentifier":"productcert@siemens.com","cvss":{"version":"3.0","score":7.8,"severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"},"cwe":["CWE-693"],"affected":["siemens/sinumerik 808d v4.7 firmware","siemens/sinumerik 808d v4.8 firmware","siemens/sinumerik 828d v4.7 firmware","siemens/sinumerik 840d sl v4.7 firmware","siemens/sinumerik 840d sl v4.8 firmware"],"epss":{"score":0.00375,"percentile":0.3125,"date":"2026-10-27","history":[]},"kev":{"listed":false},"exploits":{"count":0,"verified":false,"firstPublished":null,"source":"Exploit-DB (https://gitlab.com/exploit-database/exploitdb)","entries":[]},"verdict":{"level":"high","text":"High impact if exploited, but EPSS currently rates exploitation as unlikely (0.38%).
